[font=font36821]Hearings on Governor's Nominations[/font] Legislative committees will hold public hearings as listed below for the purpose of considering nominations by the Governor for appointment to positions that require review by joint standing committees and to confirmation by the Legislature. You may testify at the public hearing or submit written testimony. Kleiner of Union to the Land For Maine's Future Board The Board was established by 5 MRSA § 6202 for the purpose of authorizing distribution of proceeds from the Land for Maine's Future Fund for land acquisition in accordance with strategies to be developed by the Board. The 9 member Board, 6 of whom are to be private citizens must be selected for their knowledge of the State's natural resources and landscape and their commitment to land conservation. The 6 private citizen members serve staggered 4-year terms. The remaining 3 members of the board are permanent members and include the Commissioner of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, the Commissioner of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and the Commissioner of Marine Resources. Noyes of South Freeport to the Maine Public Employees Retirement System Board of Trustees The 8 member board is responsible for the proper operation of the retirement system, formulating policies and exercising general supervision of the system. 4 of the 8 members are appointed and must meet requirements specified in the law. Members serve 3-year terms and the board must meet at least monthly. Whitworth of Portland to the Maine Human Rights Commission The Maine Human Rights Commission is an independent commission comprised of 5 members who are appointed by the Governor. No more than 3 of the members may be of the same political party. Commission members are appointed for 5-year terms. The Commission is responsible for investigating and recommending remedies for all conditions and practices within the State which "allegedly detract from the enjoyment, by each inhabitant of the State, of full human rights and personal dignity." Maker, Senate Chair, Representative Walter A. Kumiega, III, House Chair [font=font36821]Public Hearing: [/font]Wednesday, January 17, 2018, 9:00 AM, Cross Building, Room 206 Nominees: Matthew E. Moretti of Cape Elizabeth; Peter C. Mourmouras of Biddeford to the Marine Resources Advisory Council The Council is comprised of 16 members. Six of the 12 members appointed by the Governor must be recommended by groups representing commercial harvesting interests, 4 must hold non harvesting-related licenses, 1 representing the aquaculture industry and 1 public member. The remaining members are ex officio and represent various fisheries. The Council advises the Commissioner of Marine Resources on policy matters and reviews the Departments annual report. Members serve no more than 2 consecutive 3-year terms.
